Dusty
This is Dusty (or The Cat), the other love of my life.
He is a walking, purring, cuddling ad for why you should adopt instead of buy. We adopted him from the local animal shelter at the beginning of Thanksgiving weekend October 9 2009. This sweet guy had been at the shelter for two months when we adopted him.
My cat Keiko, who I had since I was 14, had to be put to sleep after a 10 month battle with cancer just 9 days before, and I was completely crushed. We meant to just drop off some of her things at the animal shelter, to help some other cats and kittens. I felt like then maybe her passing wouldn’t be in vain. I decided to just take a look at the cat rooms. Just a look.
Dusty ended up coming home with us.
I don’t know if it’s the way he pawed my pant leg as I stood looking at the other cats, the way he tilted his head or his stubby half tail. He was brought into the shelter at the age of 3 months old as a stray, with his tail severely damaged and half had to be amputated. Someone had been feeding him but couldn’t catch him as he would run away. It took weeks but they finally managed to and brought him in. I thank this person in my heart often that they didn’t give up, as he brings us so much joy! I say his special tail gives him character…of which he has plenty!
He loves to lay on his back, and half the time sleeps this way!
Dusty got his name from the way would he would hide anywhere he could stick his little body(like under the oven!), covering him in dust bunnies.
